All seven candidates running for contested state legislative seats in Seminole County are expected to attend a town-hall meeting Oct.14. They are scheduled to deliver 10-minute statements before taking questions from the audience at Seminole Community College. The candidates include Robert Acosta , Sandy Adams and Franklin Perez for House District 33; Darius Davis and Andy Gardiner for Senate District 9; and Thad Altman and Kendall Moore for Senate District 24. Orlando Sentinel - The Seminole County Sheriff's Office has made an arrest in a Sept. 11 fatal shooting. Demetrae Pearson, 26, faces a charge of homicide in the death of 31-year-old Ruben Rodriguez, who was shot outside his residence at Magnolia Grove Apartments. He was arrested Thursday and was held without bail in the Seminole County Jail in Sanford....

Orlando Sentinel - Seminole County Sheriff's investigators have made a second arrest in a shooting death last month in Fern Park. Damien McNeil Lacount, 26, of Fern Park was arrested during the weekend on a homicide charge. Demetrae Pearson, 26, was arrested on the same charge last week. Both are being held without bail in the Seminole County Jail in Sanford. They are charged in the Sept. 11 death of Ruben Rodriguez, 31, at the Magnolia Grove Apartments....

Orlando Sentinel - A Seminole County grand jury Tuesday indicted five people on first-degree-murder charges in three fatal shootings. Shane Michael-Paul Ellis, 20, of Altamonte Springs was shot to death through a closed door at an apartment near Pearl Lake on July 8. According to an Altamonte Springs police report, one of the suspects opened fire after Ellis opened and then closed the door. Indicted on Monday was Willie Jacari Williams, 22, of Altamonte Springs. In the second case, Jeremy Alexander Hodges-Goodson, 21, was fatally shot Sept. 6 at the intersection of Peach Tree Lane and Jackson Street in Altamonte Springs. The grand jury indicted Donte Jerron Jackson, 29, in the slaying. In the third case, the grand jury indicted three suspects in the slaying of Kelsey Andre Poitier, 23, of Port Richey, who was shot Sept. 17 at a Sanford public-housing complex. Those suspects are Relicia Antottet McKinnon, 21; Anterious Deshawn Thornton, 18; and Anthony Eugene Holley Jr., 21. All five suspects were in custody, according to the State Attorney's Office....
