organizer Michelle Wheeler said 8220;At the last sale customers wrapped all around the walls to the exit doors as they waited in line to check out People couldn8217;t shop8221;This year the consigment sale expanded to the church8217;s contemporary worship sanctuary Merchandise was spaced farther apart and customers had more room to move Wheeler said8220;I like it because it8217;s not crowded8221; said Angela Hazel who stopped by to buy items for her four children 8220;There8217;s a lot of space8221;But neither the extra space nor heavy morning rains stopped customers from lining up at the doors Friday8220;Bless their hearts8221; Wheeler said 8220;They were out there on the porch in the rain Always when we open the doors several hundred people come in8221;Shoppers scattered throughout the store Friday morning At 2 pm Wheeler guessed at least 1000 people had come through the doors They balanced babies on their hips with one hand and piles of consignment clothes with the other; they rummaged through boxes of baby slippers shoes hair bows mittens bibs and other items while their children checked out the tables of toys They loaded strollers baby seats and baby swings into vehicles; they browsed through racks of clothes filling laundry baskets bags and strollers with jeans jackets dresses and pajamasJessica Vincent of Edmonson County crouched in a corner as she folded a standup playset8220;This is my second load8221; she said 8220;I usually come and wait in line and I8217;m getting ready to call it quits8221;Erin Dant had just walked in and she was prepared to find loads of items for her two daughters8220;It8217;s kind of fun and there8217;s all this money that8217;s going to a really good thing8221; said Dant of Bowling Green who estimated she8217;d been at least four times in the pastA record 222 consigners brought about 26000 items to sell this year Sellers price their own items and get 70 percent of the profit while 30 percent is donated to various charities Some consigners choose to discount their merchandise to half the price for today8217;s sale Sellers and volunteers participated in a preview sale Thursday which brought in about 036;30000 The ministry hopes to generate about 036;100000 from this year8217;s sale Wheeler said 045; it8217;s donated a total of 036;196000 to children and family ministries over the yearsLil8217; Angels Attic supports organizations such as children ministries at the church the preschool youth group and kid8217;s zone the Family Enrichment Center Parents as Teachers program and the Preganancy Support CenterThe ministry is in the process of buying walkietalkies for afterschool programs at local schools and it is building a ramp and tech room for the New Beginnings Therapeutic Riding center which helps disabled children by letting them ride horsesThis year the ministry8217;s Heaven Cent program which encourages customers to add 036;1 to their total to benefit a charitable organization will fund Blessings Unleashed 045; a Park Citybased program that places service dogs with autistic children8220;The donations help a lot8221; said Sandy Otto a dog trainer with the program 8220;We just turned nonprofit so up until that time all the money was coming out of the director8217;s pocket8221;Donations from Lil8217; Angels Attic will fund the dogs8217; food medicine such as heartworm pills and flea protection and help trainers maintain the dogs8220;We get paid for it but not a lot8221; Otto said 8220;We do it because it8217;s a challenge and it8217;s wonderful to see the child bonding with the dog8221;The church nominates organizations to receive donations from Heaven Cent and the ministry researches those organizations They then choose a charity through 8220;a lot of prayer and a lot of consideration8221;
