Mike Fields: Former coaching foes join forces at LCA
Found: 1 Month 3 Weeks 3 Days 12 Hours 4 Minutes ago
Lexington Hearld-Leader - Lexington Christian Academy Coach Paul Rains remembers when Ray Graham and Mike Meighan were his "two biggest nemeses" in football. When Rains was at Montgomery County in the mid-1990s, his Indians regularly knocked heads with Graham's Harrison County Thorobreds. After Rains moved to Madison Central, one of his main rivals was Meighan's Paul Dunbar Bulldogs. "I won't even mention some of the thoughts I used to have about them on Friday night," Rains said with a laugh. "If you'd told me 10 years ago that one day we'd all be coaching together at Lexington Christian, and we'd be a Class A state power, well, you couldn't make up a movie like that." Meighan, who was head coach at Dunbar for 11 years before retiring after the 2000 season, joined LCA's staff three years ago. "When Paul was at Madison Central, we butted heads a lot," Meighan said. "But this is not the same Paul Rains I coached against. He's become a new person. I'm here because this is where I was needed. It's a growing program that's teaching the right things to kids." ...

Campbell County thumps Tates Creek
Found: 3 Months 5 Days 5 Hours 4 Minutes ago
Lexington Hearld-Leader - Fairy-tale scripts would have had Coach Mike Harmon making a victorious return to Tates Creek, but the former Commodores' standout didn't get his happy ending Friday night and Creek fell 31-14 to Campbell County in the season opener. Harmon, returning to his alma mater where he was an All-City lineman and assistant coach, knew there would be a steep learning curve at Creek. He learned how steep Friday night. The Camels took it to the Commodores early in both halves and had a 24-0 lead by the middle of the third quarter. Quarterback Andrew Eshman led the way, throwing for three touchdowns and completing 10 of 17 passes for 131 yards. ...
