1,000 Acre Forest Fire Burns In Breathitt County

Southeastern Ky. fire burning 1,000 acres

Lexington Hearld-Leader - Nearly a thousand acres of forest in southeastern Kentucky are burning, and the National Weather Service has issued a dense smoke advisory because of it.
Kentucky Division of Forestry Harlan district manager Wade Maggard says the fire covers 990 acres of forest near the Breathitt and Owsley county line. Maggard says there have been no injuries.
He says the fire was started in several places by an arsonist on Sunday. Maggard says the fire has been contained but is still burning and will smoke for several more days unless it rains.
The weather service says the large amount of smoke from the fire is being trapped near the ground by a high pressure system in the area.
Maggard says arson is a huge problem in the area....
