Lexington Hearld-Leader - It's not that far from the sign counting down the days till the 2010 FEI Alltech World Equestrian Games come to Lexington to the big lot where more than 50 semi-trailers are parked.If city government can't find a way to put some muscle and urgency into enforcing the various zoning, building and other codes on the books, then international visitors arriving in less than two years are going to be greeted with eyesores like that the neighbors in Eastland Parkway have endured for too long.Reporter Beverly Fortune's story of the fate of the site of the demolished Continental Inn near the intersection of New Circle and Winchester roads is almost painful to read because you keep waiting for something, anything, to happen. Instead -- despite a year of complaints by neighbors, multiple visits to the site by a building inspector and a Board of Adjustment staff conclusion that the property's use violates zoning restrictions -- the trailers are still there....
Host of big band radio programs

Chris Nielsen Jr., a man who wore many hats, but who perhaps was best known as the host of popular big band music programs on WUKY radio, died of complications from cancer Tuesday at his home in Lexington. He was 69.
Mr. Nielsen hosted and produced Sentimental Journey and One Night Stand , which have aired on Saturdays for many years. He previously hosted a show called Make Believe Ballroom on WUKY.
"His passion for the big band sound was contagious and appreciated by so many who had the opportunity to listen to his creative, innovative shows over the last several years. He just loved it," said Glenn Leveridge, president of Central Bank's Winchester market and a long-time friend.
Mr. Nielsen's programs, which aired for nearly 30 years, were "enormously popular," said WUKY program director Stacy Yelton. ...

Lexington Hearld-Leader - More than 50 semi-trailers are parked on the site of the old Continental Inn, despite complaints to the city by neighbors and business owners who say the trailers are parked illegally and want the site cleaned up.“Neighbors are upset in a major way,” said Loys Mather, president of the Eastland Parkway Neighborhood Association. “It's being used as a truck terminal, there's no other way to describe it. And that's not allowed.”Buddy Hoskinson, executive director of Spencerian College, whose campus adjoins the Continental Inn property, said the trailers block access to a portion of his property and pose a fire hazard.“If we had a fire at this point,” he said, “fire trucks could not get on our campus.”...
