Host of big band radio programs Found: 5 Days 4 Hours 4 Minutes ago Lexington Hearld-Leader -
Chris Nielsen Jr., a man who wore many hats, but who perhaps was best known as the host of popular big band music programs on WUKY radio, died of complications from cancer Tuesday at his home in Lexington. He was 69.
Mr. Nielsen hosted and produced Sentimental Journey and One Night Stand , which have aired on Saturdays for many years. He previously hosted a show called Make Believe Ballroom on WUKY.
"His passion for the big band sound was contagious and appreciated by so many who had the opportunity to listen to his creative, innovative shows over the last several years. He just loved it," said Glenn Leveridge, president of Central Bank's Winchester market and a long-time friend.
Mr. Nielsen's programs, which aired for nearly 30 years, were "enormously popular," said WUKY program director Stacy Yelton. ...
