Solar energy tax credit extension is urged Found: 2 Months 4 Weeks 33 Minutes ago Baltimore Sun - Three prominent Maryland Democratic elected officials stood on a grassy hill atop a former landfill in Ellicott City yesterday urging congressional Republicans to stop blocking the extension of federal investment tax credits for solar energy. The credits are set to expire Dec. 31, but Democrats and Republicans are at loggerheads over the issue. Democrats want more wind, solar and renewable energy incentives, but Republicans have objected to paying for them by assessing oil companies. Democrats have a bare majority of the Senate votes, but not enough to veto-proof the bill or prevent a Republican filibuster. The location for the news conference that included Gov. The county would provide the land, which is next to Worthington Elementary School, and the facility would be built by Sun Edison, a Beltsville company. "We won't spend a dime," Ulman said. But without the federal investment tax credit for the bank financing the project, however, it won't be built, unless it can be completed before year's end. "We need an energy policy in America - desperately," Cardin said, adding that the United States is a world leader in solar technology, yet it is not used much in this country because of the dependence on oil....
