Westland man remembered for role in Livonia youth league Found: 5 Days 8 Hours 59 Minutes ago Hometown Life - Westland father James Dunsmore will be remembered as one of the most enthusiastic supporters of the Livonia Blue Jays, a nonprofit youth football league whose games he faithfully filmed on Livonia's Bentley Field."He videotaped the games and delivered copies to the head coaches,"friend Gena Thrushman said. "He did that every week."Dunsmore, 42, was killed Monday morning when he lost control of his car on a slick patch of I-96 near Davison in Detroit. Dunsmore, who wasn't wearing a seat belt, crashed into another vehicle, was thrown from his car and then hit by a third vehicle."It's very tragic,"Thrushman said.Dunsmore, a medical technician at Detroit Receiving Hospital, was on his way to work in his silver Ford Escort, said Thrushman, who saw reports of the accident on a television news station before she realized who had been killed.Dunsmore and wife Kelly have three boys, Jacob, 13, Alex, 9, and Nate, 6. Next season, the youngest son has plans to play for the Blue Jays, following in his brothers'footsteps.Gena and Bret Thrushman's 13-year-old son, Bret Jr., played on the team with Jacob for six years, and Gena Thrushman said Dunsmore was one of the Blue Jays'biggest fans."He was just a very loving, caring guy,"she said. "He would volunteer to do anything we asked. We all became great friends. Over 250 parents were involved. Everybody knew everybody."Dunsmore's friends will have a candlelight vigil at 7 p.m. Saturday at Bentley Field, next to the Livonia Community Recreation Center at Five Mile and Hubbard, Thrushman said."It's a memorial for him and to promote seat belt awareness,"she said, adding that Dunsmore wasn't wearing his seat belt during the accident.Dunsmore became close friends with the Thrushmans and others like Tom Tudor and Mike Groat. His friends have pictures of him at Bentley Field, including one in which he is smiling and waving from an announcer's booth.Thrushman confirmed that Kelly Dunsmore, a Red Robin employee, and her sons will need help, so the Jim Dunsmore Memorial Fund will be set up at the Charter One branch at 31441 Plymouth Road at Merriman in Livonia for anyone who wants to help the family.Dunsmore also is survived by his parents, Alexander "Butch"and Sarah "Dean"Dunsmore; a sister, Pam Fopma; a niece, Tiffany Fopma; and a nephew, Matthew Scheida.The family scheduled visitation for 4-9 p.m. Wednesday and 1-9 p.m. Thursday at the Dearborn Chapel of Voran Funeral Home, 23701 Ford Road, in Dearborn.
