Bush ridiculed repeatedly at Jersey Dems'breakfast Found: 3 Days 6 Hours 40 Minutes ago Asbury Park Press - DENVER -- The New Jersey delegation to the Democrtaic National Convention gathered for breakfast this morning loaded for bear in their hunt to flush Republicans from office this November.Former Denver Mayor Wellington Webb, one of the guest speakers, provided some of the most fiery ammunition.A roar of support went up when Webb, who is black, said, "George Bush has destroyed the myth of white superiority. ... He could not put a sentence together, much less a paragraph."Webb, Democratic mayor here from 1991 to 2002, is widely hailed for helping lead a renewal of Denver's once seedy downtown, replaced now by sports, business and arts centers, with building cranes gracing the skylines out into the suburbs."He,"Webb added of Bush as the crowd rose and clapped, "doesn't know where he is, where he has been or where he is going."Webb likened the war on terror in Iraq to invading one's next-door neighbor's home after suffering a burglary in one's own.The former mayor told of links between New Jersey and Colorado -- the fact New Jersey's U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg helped in the Congress to fund building a new Denver International Airport, and that Gov. Jon S. Corzine shepherded the bonds on the plan while at Goldman Sachs.Webb said he was gladdened to learn of other links, such as the fact Colorado's Pikes Peak takes its name from Jersey mapmaker and explorer Zebulon Pike.Webb is a friend of Trenton Mayor Douglas Palmer, who introduced Webb.Looking at Palmer, Webb told of the time he joined other black mayors on a visit to Africa. "We left in chains and returned as mayors,"said Webb.Palmer also addressed the breakfast, as did Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy, both beating the drum for Obama."This election is crucial for the cities,"said Palmer, describing how kids in Trenton sleep in bathtubs to be safe from gangland bullets exploding through the walls of their homes.Healy -- who said, "I have a cold, so my voice isn't the best today"-- derided Bush for his tough-guy remarks on the invasion and occupation of Iraq, such as "Mission Accomplished"or "Bring it on."Obama, said Healy, would never make such taunts or what became inaccuracies....
