Pughkeepsie Journal - GLENS FALLS ?It came down to a tiebreaker in the Class D state semifinals, but the Haldane High School girls'volleyball team had its championship reign end with a 25-20 loss to Section 10's Chateaugay on Saturday at Glens Falls Civic Center.Chateaugay will play Section 6's Portville today at 10 a.m. in the state final.The Blue Devils started off slowly in the tiebreaker, falling behind 5-1 before making a comeback and tying the score at 17-17. Laura Campbell's serving was key in the comeback, with four points.Irina Impellittiere also made an impact once the Blue Devils got untracked, with several big kills that helped keep the game within two at 20-18."I think a couple of people on our team realized it was now or never,"senior Avery Zuvic said. "The thing about volleyball is that if one person is pushing and no one else is it doesn't make much of a difference. We had moments where everyone was clicking, but it just didn't stay."Chateaugay, which also won a 25-9 tiebreaker over Candor, wasn't giving Haldane any breaks. Annie Smith's hitting was relentless and the Blue Devils'defense wasn't able to pick up a lot of her hits, giving the Bulldogs the opportunity to open the game up 24-19 and regain control.The Blue Devils split their first match with Chateaugay 1-1. After the Blue Devils won 25-15 in the first game, the Bulldogs came back to win a 25-19 nail-biter.Portville took first place in the semifinals, conducted in pool-play format, with a 6-0 record that included sweeping the Blue Devils 25-17, 25-15.Haldane also played Candor, winning the first game 25-10, then falling 25-17 in the second game....
