Gas supply low, prices high in Midlands Found: 3 Weeks 6 Days 3 Hours 51 Minutes ago The State - Midlands residents continued to top off their tanks with gas on Sunday, all the while hoping the area’s fuel supplies won’t run dry before the region’s storage tanks can be replenished.Pre-hurricane fears and post-hurricane fuel shortages have prompted a rush on gas stations in recent days, leaving many with longer lines and limited gas supplies. But as of Sunday, few motorists were experiencing any real difficulty finding gas, even if they had to pay a little more to get it.“It’s kinda scary,” Columbia’s Susan Skimmer said as she got gas at the BP station on Elmwood Avenue late Sunday morning. And although she had no trouble finding gas, she’s anxious about the prospects of the coming days. As a result, drivers could struggle to find gas for several days, said Michael Fields, executive director for the S.C. Petroleum Marketers Association.“Clearly, we’re going to have to make changes as a society and a community (this week),” he said. That could include carpooling and running fewer errands....
