And despite being open seven fewer nights in 2008 than in 2007, the numbers were down only slightly for Lights Before Christmas at Riverbanks Zoo.p/The Saluda Shoals lights show drew about 13,200 vehicles through Tuesday, slightly ahead of last year#8217;s pace, according to Elizabeth Taylor, executive director of the Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission. That translates to about 54,000 people, based on estimates of about four people per vehicle (plus 1,200 people at the Sleigh Bell Trot).p/The numbers are up despite the traditional Thanksgiving start coming later in the November calendar. Holiday Lights on the River was open five fewer nights in 2008 than in 2007.p/But at least Saluda Shoals#8217; drive-through display can stay open in a driving rain. Lousy weather forced Riverbanks to cancel four nights of the walk-through Lights Before Christmas event. Also, Riverbanks originally scheduled three fewer nights than 2007 because of the late Thanksgiving....
