USC students get night buses to Five Points, Vista

The State - Cocky’s Caravan, a new bus service geared toward college students and late-night revelers in Five Points and the Vista, starts tonight.The buses will run every half-hour, from 9 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, except during home football games.Service is free for USC students, who pay an additional $2 as part of this fall’s student activity fee.Anyone else who hops on board will have to pay the regular $1.50 fare.RTA spokeswoman Brittany Doten said the three-month experiment is costing the university $32,800....

The State - Funeral services for a Chapin High School student who was killed during a reported dispute at a party over the weekend will be held today.Services for Deshaun Clark, 17 of Little Mountain, will be 3 p.m. today at Chapin Presbyterian Church, 600 Old Lexington Highway.Authorities believe Clark was shot and killed after being accused of taking the cell phone of Janice Reeves, 19, who was hosting the party with her twin brother.Reeves'father, Francis Marion Reeves III, 62, is charged with murder in the incident.He was released Tuesday on a $125,000 bond....

The State - Deshaun Clark apparently was shot and killed over a “missing” cell phone that wasn’t really missing.The phone belonged to 19-year-old Janice Reeves who with her twin brother Francis “Frank” Marion Reeves IV was hosting a party at a lakefront Chapin home where Clark was shot Friday night, authorities said Tuesday.Reeves’ father, Francis Marion Reeves III, 62, has been charged with murder in Clark’s death. He was released Tuesday afternoon on $125,000 bond.In court Tuesday, Deputy 11th Circuit Solicitor Rick Hubbard said Janice Reeves’ boyfriend, who was not named, accused Clark of taking the phone.A fight broke out and Clark, 17, was knocked unconscious twice, Hubbard said. Clark left with friends, but said he would be back with more people....

The State - The family of a Chapin High School student who was fatally shot Friday night held a community meeting Tuesday night in Little Mountain to talk about the shooting.More than 50 people gathered at the HUB Christian Life Center, seeking answers about the death of 17-year-old Deshaun Rashad Clark.Media representatives were barred from coming inside.Clark’s cousin, 17-year-old Trenton Clark, of Chapin, said outside the meeting that he and Clark were like brothers. They ate lunch together at school, attended the same church and often played video games. Trenton said he never got the chance to tell his cousin he loved him.“I just saw him two weeks ago, and he said, ‘This is gonna be our year because we’re both gonna be seniors,’. He was gonna sit right next to me at graduation.”...

The State - A $125,000 surety bond was set this morning for a man accused of killing a Chapin High School student over the weekend.Francis Marion Reeves III, 62, is charged with murder in shooting death of 17-year-old Deshaun Rashad Clark of Little Mountain in a dispute at a party.Conditions of the bond include:-- No contact with the victim's family or any witnesses, excluding Reeves'two children and his daughter's boyfriend -- House arrest for the duration of the bond. Reeves would be able to leave home for lawyer visits, court appearances, church services and doctor's visits -- No drinking of alcohol.The bond hearing was scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Lexington County Judicial Center, 205 E.
