The State - FORT MILL — Springfield Middle School is harnessing the power of the sun to train today’s students to solve tomorrow’s anticipated energy shortage.The school has been generating a small amount of power with a solar photovoltaic array, installed by York Electric Co-op in July as part of its participation in the Solar Schools Program.Last year, Springfield Middle became the ninth school in South Carolina to sign on with the program, which provides a solar array, curriculum, computers and an interactive kit.
