Champs crowned at popular 'Wesleyan Idol' event Found: 2 Days 22 Hours 59 Minutes ago The Daily Republic - As the first performers at the final round of the "Wesleyan Idol" competition, Tanner LaValliere and Derik Fossum were hoping for a strong start.
Dressed in plaid shirts and jeans, the duo attempted to cue the recorded accompaniment for their version of the Barenaked Ladies' "One Week." The sound operator, however, wasn't cooperating.
Singing the first two words of the song, "It's been," Fossum suddenly stopped. There was no accompanying music.
"Just kidding," he said to the audience. "It hasn't."
Eventually, though, the music played on during the finals of the annual competition at Dakota Wesleyan University, with LaValliere of Sioux Falls, and Fossum, of Canton, taking home the top prize of $500.
