Hurley/Marion looks for first state title

The Daily Republic - In Hurley/Marion's state semifinal win over Lyman on Saturday, the Cobras got off to a bit of a slow start. Lyman took a 14-8 lead, looked poised at one point to go up by two touchdowns, and halfback Dawson Jandreau had 170 yards in the first quarter and a half.
Hurley/Marion recovered quickly with 48 unanswered points, but when the Cobras take on undefeated Ipswich today at 7:30 p.m. in the 9AA state title game in Vermillion, they would just as soon not have to do it again.

The Daily Republic - VERMILLION - You can only keep Hurley/Marion down for so long, and the Ipswich Tigers found that out Thursday in the Class 9AA state title game in Vermillion.
Hurley/Marion started slow offensively for the second week in a row, and this time didn't record a first down until the final play of the first quarter. But the Cobras put things together quickly, eventually holding off the Tigers for a 42-28 win.

The Daily Republic - PRESHO - Hurley/Marion couldn't have scripted its win over Lyman much better than the way things went Saturday in Presho.
Brad Tunge racked up the yards, Darin Schoenwald racked up the scores and the defense made big play after big play as the Cobras rallied from a 14-8 second-quarter deficit to score 48 unanswered points and beat previously unbeaten Lyman, 56-14, in a 9AA state semifinal game. Hurley/Marion (9-2) advances to play Ipswich in the state title game in Vermillion Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
"To tell you the truth, it probably hasn't sunk in yet," said Hurley/Marion coach Scott Meyer, who, in his fifth year, has guided his team back to the DakotaDome for the first time since Marion went by itself in 1998.
