The Daily Republic - The Mount Vernon volleyball team was given a No. 5 seed for its 25-1 record this season for the Class B state volleyball tournament, which starts today.
Thirty-eight miles straight west down I-90, the Kimball volleyball team received a No. 6 seed for its 26-2 record on the season.
The two teams will make the long trip down the interstate to Rapid City, as the first round of the state tournament opens this afternoon.

The Daily Republic - The Dakota Wesleyan University football team may have missed a playoff berth this season, but it still accomplished some great feats.
Tuesday afternoon, the Tigers were recognized for those feats by the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
Six DWU players were named to the all-conference first team, two to the second team and 11 earned honorable mention status.
The biggest award, however, was given to the man who guided DWU to its best season since 1993. Head coach Brad Pole was named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Coach of the Year after guiding his Tigers to a 7-3 season and a third-place conference finish.

MHS senior Knight earns All-ESD status

The Daily Republic - The Mitchell Kernels' Kendra Knight was named to the 2008 Eastern South Dakota All-Conference volleyball team Monday.
The senior setter was the only first-team selection for the Kernels, but two of her teammates, senior middle-hitter Taylor Overweg and outside-hitter Stephanie Uher each finished their careers with Mitchell on the honorable mention list.
