They ran fast breaks and effectively dished off the ball for wide-open 3-point shots or layups. Dominick Nicholas, off the bench, had seven points to lead the Stars in the first half. The Panthers, who had a similar offensive strategy, couldnt keep up with Siegel. The Stars expanded their lead to double digits in the third quarter, going on a 10-2 run to go up by 11, 41-30.But Siegel started getting sloppy in the fourth quarter, and the Panthers took advantage of turnovers to cut the gap down to four, 47-43, midway through the fourth quarter. So the Stars went to a slow-down methodical offensive approach.We werent really trying to slow it down, we were just trying to get it under control,said Siegel coach Ben Dotson. We had gotten helter-skelter. Thats good for the fans, but bad for the coach. We wanted to slow it down, get good shots, and get to the free throw line.The Stars accomplished this, getting the ball in the hands of Kerry Hammonds, and he converted six-of-10 free throws in the final minutes, scoring 20 to lead Siegel (8-4).Maplewood fell to 9-3.They were very athletic,said Dotson.
