The Daily Tribune - CITY OF ADAMS A Federal Emergency Management Mobile Disaster Recovery Center will be at the Adams County Community Center from July 30 through Aug. 1. The mobile recovery center will be open to offer assistance to any Adams County residents who have incurred damages since the early June severe winds and continuing rain events, according to a news release from the Adams County Emergency Management Department. Residents must first register with FEMA by telephone at 800-621-3362 or online at www.fema.gov before using the mobile recovery center. The center will be open from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. July 30 and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. July 31 and Aug. 1. The Adams County Community Center is at 567 N. Cedar Street Adams, Room 123. Agencies present for face-to-face disaster assistance include FEMA, SBA, state Emergency Management, State Hazard Mitigation and county Emergency Management. They can assist in completing disaster applications, offer mitigation tips to reduce future damages and help find answers to questions. Residents are reminded to be eligible for any possible assistance they must apply with FEMA by Aug. 13. Home cleanup kits still are available from Adams County Emergency Management, University Wisconsin Extension or Public Health officers during normal office hours. The kits contain products to reduce the health hazards from mold and mildew that thrive in wet or flooded basements. The Daily Tribune - ROME The man involved in a standoff Friday in Rome was taken into custody Wednesday in Portage.George R. Sluce, 46, Rome, was arrested on multiple warrants at about 9 p.m. Wednesday. According to the press release, Sluce allegedly held a female suspect against her will in his home and threatened her with a firearm. The woman was able to leave the home and report the incident, but Sluce fled the scene before officials arrived. Law enforcement in Wisconsin and Illinois had been looking for Sluce since the incident. Following the investigation, charges are expected to be filed with the Adams County district attorneys office. Sluce was arrested on warrants for misdemeanor battery, false imprisonment, pointing a firearm at another, disorderly conduct and felony intimidation of a victim....

The Daily Tribune - ROME Officials are looking for a 46-year-old man who they believe threatened a woman with a gun Friday evening. At 8:39 p.m. Friday, a woman left George R. Sluces residence on Regal Forest Trail in Rome and contacted police, saying Sluce had threatened her with a firearm, according to a news release from the Rome Police Department. The woman told authorities there were two children inside the home when she left. Rome officers established a perimeter around the residence and attempted to make telephone contact with Sluce, but got no response. They called in the Wood County Sheriffs Department Special Response Team and Adams County Sheriffs Department, according to the release. Officials later determined Sluce left the residence prior to the arrival of law enforcement. The children in the home were picked up by a sibling. A search warrant was served on the property at about 5:15 a.m. and several pieces of evidence were removed from the home, the news release said. Warrants are expected to be issued for Sluce, Rome Police Chief Adam Grosz said. He is believed to be traveling in a maroon 1992 Ford Explorer, with Wisconsin registration EE8858, possibly heading for Illinois. Anyone knowing the whereabouts of Sluce is urged to contact the Rome Police Department at 715-325-8020. Sluce, whois believed to be armed, should not be approached....

Illinois man drowns in Adams County

The Daily Tribune - An Illinois man died July 4 at Northern Bay Resort, Strongs Prairie, in what was considered a possible drowning incident.Wladyslad T. Urbas, 31, of Burbank, Ill., was pronounced dead at the scene by an Adams County deputy coroner, according to a press release from the Adams County Sheriffs Department. At 6:27 p.m. Friday, the Adams County Sheriffs Department received a report of a possible drowning incident at the resort. An initial investigation by the Adams County Sheriffs Department determined the man was wading in Castle Rock flowage with his son a short distance from the beach. Urbas stepped into an area where he was unable to reach the bottom. A bystander retrieved Urbas son from the water, but was unable to locate Urbas when he returned to the water to search for him. Urbas was located about 8:45 p.m. and pronounced dead. The Adams County Sheriffs Department was assisted at the scene by Juneau County Sheriffs Department, Town of Rome dive team, Adams Fire Department, Quincy Fire Department, the Department of Natural Resources and Moundview Memorial Hospital Ambulance....
