Stacia Nemitz, sister of Vanessa, sat out past two seasons. Sophomore G Brianna Klaas sat out last season with cancer. She's fully recovered. Shoot a Three for Bri fundraiser collected $6,208 that went to the Grant County Cancer Coalition. Will play 11 of first 12 games on the road.- Outlook: The Pioneers haven't finished with a winning record in five years. It will be a challenge to do so this year.UW-River Falls- Head coach: Cindy Hovet, ninth season (105-102).- Last season: 8-18, 2-14 WIAC.- Top players: Jenna Hanson, sr., 5-6, G; Tiffany Gregorich, frosh., 5-5, G; Kelli Hilt, jr., 5-6, G; Taylor House, frosh., 5-11, G.- Notes: Lost top three scorers, including Bloomer grad Krystal Parr, who transferred to Dubuque. Gregorich and Hanson - both Altoona grads - will split time at PG. Lost to Wisconsin, 71-38, in exhibition game.- Outlook: The Falcons have just two upperclassmen on the roster, meaning they'll have to do a lot of learning as they go. This will be a team to keep an eye on in a few years.UW-Stevens Point- Head coach: Shirley Egner, 20th season (332-164).- Last season: 24-5, 12-4 WIAC.- Top players: Jessi Sporle, sr., 6-0, F; Katie Webber, sr., 5-9, G; Janell Van Gomple, sr., 5-9, G.- Notes: Graduated six seniors that accounted for 1,193 of the team's 2,166 points. Have won at least 20 games in seven of past eight seasons. Hit double figures in WIAC victories eight straight seasons. Won WIAC tournament last year by beating top two teams on the road. Sporle and Webber are lone returning starters. Could play UW-Eau Claire four times this season.- Outlook: The Pointers don't rebuild. They reload. They may not be at the level of UW-Eau Claire and UW-Whitewater this season, but they aren't too far back.UW-Superior- Head coach: Donald Mulhern, third season (188-246 in 17 seasons overall; 13-37 at UW-Superior).- Last season: 5-20, 1-15.- Top players: Anna Petersen, soph., F; Kelsey Thingvold, soph., G/F.- Notes: Roster includes 14 newcomers - 11 freshmen, three junior college transfers. Peterson (Osseo-Fairchild) was second on the team in scoring (7.7). Hasn't finished out of WIAC cellar since 2003-'04 (tied for seventh) and hasn't finished higher than fifth since it was first place in the North Section of the WIAC in 1983-'84. Play 11 of first 14 games on the road.- Outlook: The newcomers will only help as the Yellowjackets try to climb up the WIAC ladder. They'll be better than they were last year, but there still a ways away from the upper echelon.UW-Whitewater- Head coach: Keri Carollo, seventh season (94-68).- Last season: 29-4, 14-2.- Top players: Tiffany Morton, sr., 6-0, C; Heidi Sonntag, jr., 5-6, G; Kelsey Hendrickson, jr., 5-7, G.- Notes: Finished third in the NCAA tournament. Ranked No. 1 in the d3hoops.com preseason poll. Return 18 letterwinners and three starters. Morton (14.9 ppg, 8.7 rpg, 54 fg percent) is a player of the year candidate. - Outlook: The Warhawks are once again loaded.
