Crowd greets Memmel at airport Found: 3 Months 1 Week 6 Days 6 Hours 38 Minutes ago Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Photo/Benny SieuSwarmed by friends, family and future gymnasts, Chellsie Memmel advanced barely the length of a tumbling mat from her airport gate in the first half-hour of her return home from the 2008 Olympics.
The winner of a silver medal in the women's team competition graciously posed for pictures and signed autographs for the 100 or so fans who greeted her at Mitchell International Airport when her flight landed about 7 p.m.
An ankle injury suffered in training in Beijing limited Memmel's role in the competition, but her perseverance and performance on the uneven parallel bars earned her the hero's welcome.
"Some parts weren't as great as others, but overall it was a good experience," the West Allis native said.Memmel, a 2005 world champion, had been considered a potential medalist in the all-around competition before the injury, another in a series of challenges. Even with the fracture, however, she posted a solid score on the uneven parallel bars and helped earn the silver medal she displayed for the fans.
"I wasn't going to let a broken ankle stop me," she said.Memmel served as a valuable supporter for her teammates and displayed the fortitude that her young followers at the M & M Gym in New Berlin have grown to admire.Asked about her future, the 20-year-old said it was too early to discuss a possible shot at the 2012 Olympics in London, but offered that her career is not over. "It wasn't totally the experience I wanted, so I want to stick around and compete for at least another year," she said....

Jim Doyle to the 1st District Court of Appeals today to fill the vacancy created by the death of Judge Ted E. Wedemeyer.Brennan will take the seat Sept. 8. The term ends July 31, 2009. She will join <a href=http://www.wicourts.gov/about/judges/appeals/curley.htm$gt; Patricia Curley, </a$gt; <a href=http://www.wicourts.gov/about/judges/appeals/kessler.htm$gt; Joan Kessler </a$gt; and <a href=http://www.wicourts.gov/about/judges/appeals/fine.htm$gt;Ralph Adam Fine </a$gt; on the appellate court.A judge in Milwaukee County for 14 years, Brennan assumed the bench in 1994 after she defeated George W. Greene, who had been appointed to the Milwaukee Circuit Court by then-Gov. Tommy Thompson in July 1993. She has been chief judge in Milwaukee for three years.
Brennan is a former Milwaukee County assistant district attorney and worked in private practice before that. She worked as a teacher briefly before going to law school.
She is married to Joseph Murphy, a lawyer. The couple live in South Milwaukee and have four adult children. She was a Democrat before being elected to the bench, a nonpartisan post.
"Judge Kitty Brennan is an outstanding judge and a well-respected member of the legal community," Doyle said. "Her experience on the bench and understanding of the law will serve her well in this new role." Speculation already has begun about <a href=http://blogs.jsonline.com/proofandhearsay/$gt; who will succeed Brennan as chief judge in Milwaukee County. </a$gt;...
