The Daily Tribune - Three hunters were shot Sunday, one fatally, marring what began as a safe opening weekend to Wisconsins nine-day deer season.A 48-year-old man from Appleton was fatally shot at about 10:30 a.m. Sunday while hunting near the town of Bovina, according to the Outagamie County Sheriffs Department.
No further details were available and authorities were not releasing the mans name Sunday, said Laurel Steffes, a spokeswoman for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
In a separate incident Sunday, a 24-year-old man from Caroline was shot in the shoulder when a deer ran between him and a member of his hunting party. Fred Grunewald was expected to survive the incident, which
happened in the Shawano County town of Grant.
On Sunday afternoon, a man received a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his leg in Washington County. Authorities think the man was shot by someone else in his hunting party.
Hunters in Lincoln, Marathon, Oneida, Portage, Vilas and Wood counties experienced a second-straight accident-free day, according to sheriffs offices and the Department of Natural Resources.
There was not nearly as much shooting or hunting pressure Sunday as there was Saturday, DNR warden supervisor Randy Falstad said.
